Shingles is a common, painful skin disease.  The NHS shingles programme is available if you are age 70 or 78. In addition anyone who has previously missed out (born on or after 2 September 1942).

It can be very painful and uncomfortable.  Some people are left with pain lasting for years after the initial rash has healed.  Shingles is fatal for around 1 in 1,000 over 70s who develop it.  You can also have the shingles vaccination even if you have already had shingles.
